The Organization The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Flying Museum seeks to 1) honor the memory and service of veterans and their families, 2) support veterans and patriots by providing engaging volunteer opportunities that extend or create connections to Army Aviation, 3) encourage careers in aviation by supporting educational initiatives in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), as we 4) preserve, protect, and promote the legacy of Army Aviation. Role Summary The Director of Operations guides and provides leadership for the day to day operations and resource management for the 501 (c)(3) organization. The Director of Operations engages internally with volunteers and staff and serves as a liaison to our external customers and partners. The Director of Operations will be aligned with, and ensure team members are aligned with, the organization’s mission and objectives and that the team works together to successfully achieve strategic objectives. Responsibilities · Lead internal stakeholders to safely and efficiently deliver results in operational and logistics functions. · Maintain critical focus on safety in all operational and logistics functions. · Initiate and continue to develop external partnerships through which to engage in all flight operations initiatives that support the organization’s goals and objectives. · Target external stakeholders and identify and lead team in facilitating strategic partnerships to support the organization’s mission. · Ensure commitment to and compliance with all operational and logistics related laws and regulations. · Initiate, negotiate, and implement customer and vendor contracts related to operational and logistical functions. · Recruit and mentor volunteers and employees to guide critical operational and logistical functions. · Develop positive relationships with internal stakeholders by valuing and mentoring volunteers and staff members. · Create succession plans for key operational and logistical functions of the organization. · Assure that operational and logistical activities are coordinated with other organizational efforts to support overall success. · Support a culture of transparency and effective communication throughout the organization. · Monitor and address challenges in the internal/external environment to protect the organization’s flight operations and logistical interests. · Support the identification, development, and facilitation of partnerships for our organization to engage in STEM initiatives. · Ensure flight and maintenance records are efficiently maintained including implementation of appropriate technological tools. · inventory procedures as well as acquisition and disposition of surplus as appropriate. · Oversee logistical aspects of aircraft and equipment positioning. · Develop and consistently update operational procedures. · Travel as required. Background and Qualifications · Experience in a senior leadership role in an aviation operations environment. · Understanding of complexity and importance of efficient and effective operational and logistical processes. · Loyal commitment to and focus on safety. · Results orientation. · Collaborative leader. · Ability to develop, prioritize, and implement plans to fulfill objectives. · Demonstrated skill in effective time management and efficient and strategic leadership of human and capital assets to yield results. · Basic understanding of financial strategies and performance metrics. · Aptitude for verbal/written communication skills and effective internal/external relationship development skills including conflict management. · Technological literacy necessary to operate independently in performing routine responsibilities. · Knowledge of best practices in operations, safety, and logistics. · Experience in not-for-profit preferred. · Role requires full commitment and precludes outside engagements other than by advance approval from senior leadership. · Strong references required.

The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation tells the U.S. Army Aviation Story by hosting and participating in Aircraft and Museum Tours, School Programs, Air Shows and other public events across the country. AAHF acquires, restores and maintains historic vintage flying aircraft representing Army Aviation during Vietnam and the Cold War. Honoring the men and women who have served in the U.S. Military and Army Aviation, our Sky Soldiers along with dedicated volunteers conduct patriotic flying presentations, public helicopter rides, educational presentations and more.
