You will perform flight dynamics and orbit analysis functions for the ViaSat fleet of satellites. Your prime responsibility will be station-keeping operations of geosynchronous satellites which entails keeping satellites in their assigned locations using fuel-efficient operations. This position also provides maintenance and development support for flight dynamics applications and deriving algorithm requirements for data analysis and to improve flight operations. In addition you will apply professional engineering knowledge to perform in-orbit operations including maneuver planning end-of-life propellant accounting and related trending analysis.
Specific responsibilities include:
+ Performing activities for safe and optimal station keeping operations including: orbit determination maneuver planning maneuver performance evaluation close approach monitoring and satellite relocations
+ Trending and general analysis of satellite maneuver history
+ Keeping satellite products current and accurate (e.g. on-board ephemeris sensor shadow and intrusion predictions and ground antenna tracking predicts)
+ Satellite anomaly resolution and other problems related to flight dynamics operations
+ Transfer orbit mission support and mission planning activities
+ Be aware of and respond to all alerts from our planning software and automation
+ Conduct propellant-efficient operations according to station-keeping theory and practice; make recommendations for improvement.
+ Support on-call responsibilities
+ Participate in flight dynamics software tool maintenance development testing and enhancement.
+ Provide mentorship/leadership to junior Flight Dynamics Engineer.
+ Personnel supervisory activities may be required.
+ Bachelors Degree in a technical discipline
+ 10 + years experience with flight dynamics operations on SSL 1300 and/or BSS 702 satellite systems.
+ Experience working in an environment which requires engineering and analytical skills
+ Ability to analyze time varying data in plots or tables for specific signatures.
+ Natural curiosity to understand how engineering systems function and to analyze performance
+ General knowledge of one or both of the BSS 702 or SSL 1300 spacecraft designs and operations and its impacts on flight dynamics operations.
+ Experience working with different hardware platforms and software operating systems (Matlab UNIX scripting languages) as well as Microsoft Office products
+ Experience operating various satellite operations flight dynamics systems.
+ Must be able to lead and mentor junior engineers in the performance of these duties.
+ US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status required
+ Ability to travel up to 10%
+ Intermediate Excel programming skills including macro development and experience with the Kratos OASYS system
+ Unix Matlab Perl Visual basic and Microsoft Access programming skills
