Airline Baggage and Cargo Handler JobsAirline Baggage and Cargo Handler Duties Cargo handlers load, unload, and service aircraft between flights. Cargo handlers must load passenger baggage, mail, food supplies, commercial freight, or any other cargo going on the flight. As part of their loading and unloading duties, handlers often operate machinery such as forklifts, baggage conveyors, and various freight and baggage vehicles. Airline Baggage and Cargo Handler Qualifications Applicants should be able to lift heavy objects, have a high school education or its equivalent, and have a driver's license. Cargo agents also must be over 20 years of age and have a special license to drive large trucks and other vehicles. Cargo handlers must be willing to work in all types of weather and in a noisy environment under deadline pressure. They must also be able to follow safety standards for driving and moving heavy objects without damaging them. Average starting pay: $9 to $11 per hour.
